Learning the Basics

This is the Beginner section of our online interactive tutorials. Watch and play each of the three topics to get a basic understanding of Tetris® gameplay.  When you're done, go on to the Intermediate section.

Types of Tetriminos

Types of Tetriminos: O Tetrimino, I Tetrimino, T Tetrimino, J Tetrimino, S Tetrimino, Z Tetrimino

Moving a Tetrimino

By pressing LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys, you can slide the falling Tetrimino from side to side.

Objective

Move the Tetrimino so it hits both sides of the Matrix.

 

Rotating a Tetrimino

By pressing the UP arrow key, you can rotate a Tetrimino 90 degrees clockwise.

Objective

Rotate a Tetrimino a full 360 degrees clockwise.

 

Clearing a Line

To score points in Tetris, you must clear lines. To clear a line, every square in a row has to be filled.

Objective

Rotate and move the Tetrimino so that it clears the bottom line in the Matrix.
